Light of the Star

When I opened my eyes,
It was her that I saw—
Her beauty ever the same,
Eyes shining black like velvet,
A beautiful smile lighting up her face.
***
I could stare at her frame forever,
She makes me forget all my fears –
Her mere face is a reminder
Of all the good things in the world.
She is the Darkness for my Light.
  ***
When I opened my mind,
It was her that I thought of—
Her lilting, resounding laughter,
Her bubbly, infectious cheeriness,
The lovely tilt of her head.
  ***
I could stare at her frame forever,
She makes me forget all my fears –
Her mere face is a reminder
Of all the good things in the world.
She is the Star for my Light.
  ***
However, it all vanished
In the blink of an eye,
For when I opened my eyes once more,
She was nowhere within my sight.
I realised then
That I missed her bad—
Where are you, my love?
Where are you when I need you?
  ***
Tears suddenly stream down my face
Like never before –
I want to lie down
And cry my heart out,
Longing for the day I get to see her again.
  ***
However, I cannot do that,
Not in this hour of crisis—
I have a mission to fulfil;
If I ran away from it,
I’m sure she’ll brand me a coward
And leave me to die alone –
I can’t let that happen.
  ***
Therefore,
I harden my heart
And march forth –
To the dangers and uncertainties
Of the future.
  ***
It’s true I may not see her again,
But dying is much preferred over being neglected.
Therefore, I’ll fight on…
  ***
All for her…
